94. What do I need to know before setting targets?
TrackAble allows schools to set progress targets for pupils in several areas of the system. Targets help schools monitor progress, support effective planning, and quickly identify whether pupils are working below, on, or above expectations.
Where Targets Can Be Set
There are three areas in TrackAble where targets can be created:
-
From the Assessment screen
-
Using TrackAble’s Progression feature
-
From the Flightpath tab within an assessment framework in Admin
User Permissions
The ability to set targets depends on your user profile permissions.
-
If you do not have permission to set targets, please contact your TrackAble Administrator within your school
-
Only TrackAble Administrators can set or amend Flight Paths
Progression Settings (Administrator Only)
From Admin > Settings > Progression, your TrackAble Administrator can configure how targets work across the school, including the ability to:
-
Select whether your school uses Key Stage targets or Yearly targets
-
Enable Advanced Smart Fill, allowing targets to be set from a specific term for pupils who join mid-year
-
Allow Prediction Comments to be added to manually set targets
-
Enable the setting of Future Targets after 1st August for the following academic year
Assessment Settings – Key Stage Adjustment
There is an additional setting in Admin > Settings > Assessment that allows schools to move Year 14 pupils from Key Stage 6 to Key Stage 5.
For more information on this setting, please refer to the related support article.
Getting Started – Baselining Pupils
Before using an assessment framework or setting targets in TrackAble, pupils must be baselined.
Baselining:
-
Establishes each pupil’s starting point at the beginning of the academic year
-
Allows TrackAble to accurately calculate termly and annual progress
Without baselining, progress and targets cannot be calculated correctly.
Understanding Target Colour Coding
Once targets are set:
-
Progress indicators on the Assessment screen will change colour
-
Colours show whether a pupil is below target, on target, or above target
-
Colour changes are based on percentage thresholds set by your TrackAble Administrator
This visual system allows staff to quickly identify pupils who may need additional support or challenge.
