53. How to check data & baselines
How to check assessment data and baselines in TrackAble, identify inconsistencies, and ensure all pupils have been correctly baselined using the Levels Report.
Checking Data and Baselines for Inconsistencies in TrackAble
TrackAble provides a quick and reliable way to check assessment data and ensure that all pupils have been correctly baselined. This process helps identify missing baselines, incorrect data, and inconsistencies that may affect progress tracking and reports.
Follow the steps below to review baselines and data accurately.
Step-by-Step: How to Check Baselines Using the Levels Report
-
Go to the Assessment screen
-
Click Reports
-
Select Levels Report
-
Choose the relevant assessment framework
-
Generate the report
This report allows you to quickly review baselines and identify any potential data issues.
How to Identify a Baseline in TrackAble
-
Every baseline is underlined with “100”
-
This indicates the pupil’s starting point within the framework
If a pupil does not have an underlined 100, they are missing a baseline.
When Should a Pupil Be Baselined?
-
All pupils should be baselined
-
The only exception is if a pupil is working towards the lowest level of a framework
If a pupil is missing a baseline outside of this exception, action is required.
How to Find Pupils with Missing or Incorrect Baselines
At the end of the Levels Report:
-
Select View only unbaselined
-
Review the filtered list of pupils
This view highlights pupils who may have data entered but no baseline, indicating a potential issue.
Common Data Issues and What to Do
Data Entered but No Baseline
If a pupil has assessment data but no baseline (for example, data entered in Year 4):
-
That data will not be counted
-
The pupil must be baselined at the correct earlier stage (for example, Year 3)
-
Inform the teacher so the baseline can be added
Data in Multiple Stages
If a pupil has data entered in more than one stage:
-
Ask the teacher which stage represents the true baseline
-
If the higher level is correct:
-
Remove the lower-level data
-
Add a baseline at the correct stage
-
-
Lower-level data should be removed as it is not true data
Progress Data Without a Baseline
If a pupil has progress data (for example, progress shown in Year 4) but no baseline:
-
A baseline must be added at the appropriate earlier stage (for example, Year 3)
-
Without a baseline, progress data cannot be calculated correctly
Why This Check Is Important
Using this method allows you to:
-
Quickly identify missing baselines
-
Spot incorrect or inconsistent data
-
Ensure progress and attainment reports are accurate
-
Feed clear, actionable information back to teaching staff
This is an effective way to maintain high-quality assessment data across TrackAble.
