50. How to Use Predictive Targeting in TrackAble
Predictive Targeting is a powerful feature in TrackAble that helps schools set meaningful and realistic targets for pupils by analysing their historical rates of progress. Instead of manually estimating targets, TrackAble can automatically calculate them based on a pupil’s average termly progression since their baseline year. This ensures that targets are both data-driven and personalised to each pupil.
What Predictive Targeting Does
When Predictive Targeting is enabled:
-
TrackAble analyses every term of progress from the pupil’s baseline year up to the end of the previous academic year.
-
It calculates the average percentage of progress the pupil typically makes per term.
-
It uses this average to automatically generate predictive targets for the new academic year.
Example
If a pupil was baselined in 2015/2016 and you are setting targets for 2020/2021, TrackAble will:
-
Look at all recorded termly progress from 2015 to 2020
-
Calculate the pupil’s average termly progress
-
Apply that average to each target term in the new year
Where to Access Predictive Targeting
-
Go to the Progression screen.
-
You will see the Predictive Targets button.
-
Click the button to allow TrackAble to generate targets based on the pupil’s historical data.
TrackAble will only set predictive targets where both baseline data and progression data exist.
Optional: Increase Predictive Targets Above Average
You can choose for TrackAble to set targets that are higher than average progression, for example:
-
Add +5% to each term
-
Encourage accelerated progress where appropriate
Important:
-
This is a global setting that affects all predictive targets.
-
You must update this setting before generating the targets.
How to Enable Predictive Targeting
Before using this feature, ensure it is switched on:
Enable Predictive Targeting
-
Go to Admin > Settings > Progression.
-
Turn on Predictive Targeting.
-
(Optional) Enter a percentage increase if you want pupils to exceed their average progress.
-
Click Save Changes.
Once enabled, Predictive Targeting becomes available for use in the Progression screen.
Self-Service Tips & Troubleshooting
✔ Predictive targeting will not work if the pupil has no baseline.
✔ It will also not work where no progression data has been entered.
✔ If targets seem unusually low or high, check:
-
Baseline year is correct
-
Progression data is up to date
-
No duplicate or missing assessments exist
✔ Remember that the increase percentage applies globally to all pupils, so review with care.
