45. How to Set Targets for a Single Pupil in TrackAble
TrackAble allows you to set personalised targets for an individual pupil across one or multiple subjects within an assessment framework. This guide walks you through how to set those targets from the Assessment Screen.
Before You Start
Check whether the pupil has been baselined in the subject(s).
If the “Year Start” column shows NL + 0%, this means no baseline has been set.
You must set a baseline before setting targets (unless NL + 0% is the correct starting point).
See How to Set a Baseline for guidance.
Step-by-Step: Setting Targets for a Single Pupil
1. Open Set Targets
From the right-hand side of the Assessment Screen, click:
Set Targets
This will display all subjects within the current framework for the selected pupil, along with:
-
Year Start level
-
Level Now
2. Select the Target Level
Each subject includes a target drop-down based on your school’s Target Settings (Key Stage or Yearly).
-
Click the target dropdown for the subject you want to update.
-
Begin typing the level (recommended to reduce scrolling).
-
Select the correct level from the list.
3. Use Smart Fill
Once you have chosen a target level:
-
Click Smart Fill.
-
TrackAble will automatically calculate termly targets using linear progression.
You may adjust targets manually:
-
Click any term’s dropdown
-
Select a new target level
4. Advanced Smart Fill (Optional)
If your TrackAble Administrator has enabled Advanced Smart Fill, you can:
-
Select which term the Smart Fill calculation should start from
-
This is useful for pupils joining the school mid-year
5. Save the Targets
When all required target fields have been completed:
-
Scroll to the top or bottom of the page
-
Click Save All
Your pupil’s targets are now stored and will appear in reporting and assessment screens.
How TrackAble Calculates Percentage Progress
TrackAble uses the number of statements and stars within a level to generate valid progress percentages.
Example:
-
Level contains 5 statements
-
Each statement has 3 stars
-
Total stars: 15
-
Each star = 7%
Possible progress values are therefore:
7%, 14%, 21%, 28%, 35%, …
These appear in the target dropdowns.
Self-Service Tips
✔ If Smart Fill is not working as expected, check Assessment Settings → Targets.
✔ If target lists appear incorrect, ensure the Levels tab of the framework is in the correct order.
✔ If subjects are missing, confirm the subject is attached to the class in Admin > Lists > Classes.
