37. How to Create an IEP for a Pupil in TrackAble
Individual Education Plans (IEPs) help schools record, track and support personalised targets for pupils. TrackAble’s IEP module allows you to create, customise and review IEPs with ease. This guide walks you through how to add a new IEP for a pupil.
Accessing the IEP Module
-
From the left-hand menu on the Assessment screen, click IEP.
-
You will be taken to the IEP Module.
-
Click Add IEP to begin creating a new plan.
Your school may be using the default TrackAble IEP layout or a customised version. If customised, your screen may look different from the examples shown.
Understanding Mandatory Fields
In the standard TrackAble IEP form, all fields marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory, except for Evaluation.
Step-by-Step: Creating a New IEP
1. Type*
This is automatically set to IEP.
2. Date Added*
-
Automatically defaults to today’s date.
-
You may change the date if needed (e.g., backdating to the start of term).
3. Select a Pupil*
-
Click to open the pupil list, or
-
Begin typing the pupil’s name and select from the filtered list.
4. Choose the Term*
-
Select the term the IEP covers.
-
To create an IEP for the entire academic year, select all three terms.
Setting IEP Targets
Each IEP contains at least one target. You can add as many targets as required.
5. Focus Area*
Choose the appropriate Focus Area from the dropdown.
If the Focus Area you need is not listed:
-
Click + Add new Focus Area
-
This is only available if your TrackAble Administrator has enabled this permission for your user account.
Important:
Focus Area is essential for IEP reporting. TrackAble uses this field to analyse how many IEPs are set and achieved in each area.
6. Strategy*
Enter the support strategy for this target.
7. Target
Enter the pupil’s specific target.
(This is a text field and does not contain the * symbol, but should still be completed.)
8. Success Criteria*
Describe how success for this target will be measured.
9. Evaluation
This does not need to be completed when the IEP is first created.
Use this section later to record progress, reviews or outcome notes.
10. Status*
-
Defaults to Not Achieved.
-
When updating the IEP later, choose the relevant status from the dropdown.
If the status you need is missing:
-
Click + Add new Status
-
This is only available if your permissions allow it.
Adding More IEP Targets
If you want to add multiple targets:
-
Click Add Target (plus icon).
-
Complete the fields for the additional target(s).
-
Repeat as needed — there is no limit to the number of targets in an IEP.
Saving the IEP
When all required fields and targets are complete:
-
Scroll to the bottom of the form
-
Click Save
Your IEP is now stored within the pupil’s record and available for review, printing or updating.
