31. How do I change the number of years in key stage 5 from 2 to 3?
TrackAble follows the Department for Education’s recognised Key Stages, where Key Stage 5 typically spans two years. However, some schools operate Key Stage 5 over three years. To support this, TrackAble includes settings that allow you to extend KS5 to a three-year structure so that progression and target features continue to work correctly. This guide explains how to activate the setting and update Year 14 accordingly.
When Should You Use This Feature?
Enable this setting if:
-
Your school runs three years of Key Stage 5 instead of two
-
You want TrackAble’s progression and target calculations to recognise Year 14 as part of KS5
-
You need consistent reporting and assessment tracking across all three years
How to Change Key Stage 5 from Two Years to Three
Step 1: Enable the KS5 Adjustment Setting
-
Go to Admin > Settings > Assessment.
-
Switch on Move Year 14 from Key Stage 6 to Key Stage 5.
-
Click Save Changes.
This updates TrackAble’s internal structure, allowing Year 14 to be recognised as part of KS5.
Step 2: Update the Year Group Assignment
-
Go to Admin > Lists > Year Groups.
-
Click Edit next to Year 14.
-
Change the Key Stage dropdown to Key Stage 5.
-
Click Save.
Year 14 is now correctly assigned to Key Stage 5, completing the setup.
What Happens After This Change?
-
Targets and progression will operate across three full years of KS5
-
Reports and analysis will treat Year 14 pupils as part of KS5 rather than KS6
-
All assessment features will align with your school’s structure
