29. How to Change Your School’s Target Settings in TrackAble

TrackAble allows you to customise how targets are set and displayed for pupils, giving your school flexibility in tracking progress over time. This guide explains each of the options available within the Target Settings area.

Accessing Target Settings

  1. Go to Admin > Settings > Targets.

  2. You will see a range of settings that allow you to adjust how pupil targets are generated, displayed, and managed.

1. Choose Between Key Stage Targets or Yearly Targets

By default, TrackAble uses Key Stage targets, setting long-term goals for each pupil.

If your school prefers shorter reporting cycles, you can switch to Yearly Targets.

  • Select Yearly Target to change your school’s approach.

  • For detailed guidance on setting targets, refer to the article:
How to Set Targets in TrackAble

2. Predictive Targeting

Predictive Targeting allows TrackAble to automatically calculate targets based on a pupil’s average progression rate.

Increasing Targets Above Average

If you would like pupils to aim higher than their historical progression:

  1. Enter a percentage in Percentage Added to Predictive Target.

  2. TrackAble will add this amount to the predicted value.

Example:
If a pupil’s average progression suggests a target of 20% and you add 5%, their target becomes 25%.

3. Advanced Smartfill

Advanced Smartfill gives you the flexibility to set targets from Term 2 onwards, rather than always starting from Term 1.

This is especially useful when:

  • Pupils join mid-year

  • Baselines are adjusted

  • You begin using TrackAble partway through an academic year

4. Prediction Comment

Prediction Comments help you keep a record of decision making.

When switched on:

  • You can click the subject name in the Progression screen

  • Add notes explaining why a target was set or changed

This is useful for:

  • SEN reviews

  • Pupil progress meetings

  • Leadership discussions

  • Evidence for inspection or moderation

5. Future Targets

Future Targets allow you to start setting targets for the next academic year after 1st June.

To use this feature:

  1. Go to the Viewing Targets for dropdown.

  2. Select the following academic year.

  3. Set your new targets as required.

This helps schools prepare for transitions and end-of-year reviews efficiently.
