25. How to Manage Your School’s Assessment Settings in TrackAble

The Assessment Settings area allows you to customise how assessment behaves across TrackAble. This includes colour-coding thresholds, evidence settings, star completion rules, and more. This guide explains each setting clearly so you can configure TrackAble in the way that works best for your school.

Accessing Assessment Settings

  1. Go to Admin > Settings > Assessment.

  2. You will see a list of configurable options for your school.

Adjust each setting as needed, and remember to click Save before leaving the page.

Assessment Settings Explained

1. Complete Preceding Stars

By default, users complete stars in order (e.g., Star 1 → Star 2 → Star 3).

If this setting is switched on:

  • When a user completes a later star (e.g., Star 3), TrackAble will ask whether earlier stars should also be marked as complete.

Users will see a message offering three choices:

  • Yes → Complete preceding stars

  • No → Only complete the selected star

  • Cancel → Return to the Star Card

This ensures consistency in progression data.

2. Thresholds (Colour Coding for Targets)

When a pupil has a target set, TrackAble colour-codes their progress so teachers can quickly see how they are performing:

  • Blue – Above Target

  • Green – On Target

  • Amber – Slightly Below Target

  • Red – Well Below Target

  • White – No Target Set

Your school can configure the exact percentage thresholds for each colour.
To learn more, see the article: Colour Coding in TrackAble.

3. Allow a Date Range for Evidence

If enabled:

  • Users can filter evidence by date range when producing evidence files (Level or Subject Evidence Reports).

  • This makes it easier to review evidence from specific periods.

4. Allow Completion of Multiple Statements

When switched on:

  • Users can complete multiple statements at once.

Note: This also requires permissions to be enabled in Admin > Permissions.

5. Move Year 14 from Key Stage 6 to Key Stage 5

If your school uses an extended Key Stage 5, this setting allows Year 14 to be moved from KS6 into KS5.

See the related article for more guidance.

6. Turn RAG Colour Coding Off

  • Disables the target colour coding on the Assessment Screen.

  • Useful if your school does not use colour-based target tracking.

7. Hover Over Evidence to Display Date/Term

When turned on:

  • Hovering over an uploaded evidence file will display the term in which the evidence was added.

  • Helps teachers identify where more evidence may be needed without opening the full Star Card.

This feature also works with the Pupil Assessment Screen Report when viewed on screen.

8. Turn Off Backfill Message

Backfill messages appear when completing stars.
Switching this off removes those pop-ups for a smoother workflow.

9. Allow Select Multiple Stars by Star Name

This allows teachers to complete all stars within a group (e.g., Emerging, Developing, Secure) in one action.

How it works:

  1. Click the Star Name (e.g., “Developing”).

  2. Click Complete Statements.

  3. Amend the date if required.

Ideal for teachers who want to complete whole bands quickly.

10. Allow Multiple Selection of Stars

This enables users to right-click and select individual stars at random for completion.

How it works:

  1. Right-click the stars you want to complete.

  2. Click Complete Stars.

  3. Adjust the date if needed.

Important: This feature can only be used in the pupil’s current level.

11. Incomplete Stars (Reset Completed Stars)

This feature allows teachers to reset stars back to uncompleted without removing evidence.

How to use it:

  1. Right-click any completed star you want to uncomplete.

  2. TrackAble will immediately uncomplete the star.

  3. A message appears: Refresh page after Uncompletes.

    • Click this to refresh while staying on the same screen.

If you selected a star by mistake, simply right-click it again before refreshing, and it will revert to completed.
