20. How to Add Subject Weighting to Zones in TrackAble

Subject weighting allows you to give certain subjects a higher or lower influence when calculating overall progress within a Zone. This guide explains how to enable weighting, apply it correctly, and understand how TrackAble automatically adjusts weightings to ensure totals remain valid.

Before You Begin

Weighting can only be applied after your Zones have been created.

If you need support setting up Zones, please view the related webinar or refer to the Zones setup guide.

Step 1: Enable Subject Weighting

  1. Go to Admin > Settings > Zones.

  2. Switch on Allow subjects to be weighted.

  3. Click Save Changes.

This enables weighting functionality across your Zones.

Step 2: Apply Weighting to a Zone

  1. Go to Admin > Lists > Zones.

  2. Find the Zone you want to configure.

  3. Click Edit Zone.

  4. Enter weighting percentages for each subject.

  5. Click Save.

You can also turn weighting off for individual Zones if you prefer consistent weighting for most Zones but exceptions for specific ones.

How TrackAble Handles Weighting Totals

TrackAble requires subject weights to total exactly 100%.
If the numbers you enter do not add up to 100%, TrackAble will automatically adjust them:

When the Total Is Less Than 100%

TrackAble adds the remaining percentage to the lowest weighted subject.

Example:

  • Number = 50%

  • Using & Applying = 25%

  • Shape & Measure = 20%
    Total = 95%

TrackAble adds the remaining 5% to the lowest subject (Shape & Measure), bringing the total to 100%.

When the Total Is More Than 100%

TrackAble subtracts the excess from the highest weighted subject.

Example:

  • Number = 55%

  • Using & Applying = 25%

  • Shape & Measure = 25%
    Total = 105%

TrackAble removes 5% from the highest subject (Number), bringing the total to 100%.

Important Notes

Deleted Subjects or Frameworks

If an assessment framework or subject linked to a Zone is deleted:

  • It will appear in the Zone list as “Deleted”

  • Weighting cannot be applied

  • Reports cannot run for that deleted subject or framework

If this occurs, update your Zone to remove or replace the deleted item.
